Tor Paaske Utheim received his medical degree in 2001 and obtained a PhD in innovative stem cell therapy for treating blindness in 2010. In 2011, he became eye doctor and in 2015 Director of Innovation at Oslo University Hospital (one-year engagement). Utheim has received 22 academic awards/honours, whereof 6 related to innovation.
He is currently Head of the Unit of Regenerative Medicine, Department of Medical Biochemistry, Oslo University Norway Hospital; Professor in the Department of Oral Biology, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Oslo; Professor in the Department of Optometry and Visual Science/National Centre for Optics, Vision and Eye Care, Faculty of Health Sciences, University College of Southeast Norway; Director of Research/Senior Consultant in the Department of Ophthalmology, Drammen Hospital, Vice President for the Norwegian Society of Ophthalmology, and Adjunct Clinical Associate (Faculty Member) at Schepens Eye Research Institute/Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Department of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, U.S.
